High Order Absorbing Boundary Conditions for Elastodynamics
A high-order Absorbing Boundary Condition (ABC) is devised on an artificial boundary for time-dependent elastic waves in unbounded domains. The configuration considered is that of a two-dimensional elastic waveguide. The proposed ABC is an extension of the Hagstrom-Warburton ABC which was originally designed for acoustic waves, and is applied directly to the displacement field. The order of the...
متن کاملHigher-order Finite Elements for Hybrid Meshes Using New Nodal Pyramidal Elements
We provide a comprehensive study of arbitrarily high-order finite elements defined on pyramids. We propose a new family of high-order nodal pyramidal finite element which can be used in hybrid meshes which include hexahedra, tetrahedra, wedges and pyramids. Finite elements matrices can be evaluated through approximate integration, and we show that the order of convergence of the method is conse...
متن کاملDomain Decomposition and hp-Adaptive Finite Elements
In this work, we report on an ongoing project to implement an hp-adaptive finite element method. The inspiration of this work came from the development of certain a posteriori error estimates for high order finite elements based on superconvergence Bank and Xu [2003a,b], Bank et al. [2007]. We wanted to create an environment where these estimates could be evaluated in terms of their ability to ...
متن کاملA Fictitious Domain Method with Mixed Finite Elements for Elastodynamics
We consider in this paper the wave scattering problem by an object with Neumann boundary conditions in an anisotropic elastic body. To obtain an efficient numerical method (permitting the use of regular grids) we follow a fictitious domain approach coupled with a first order velocity stress formulation for elastodynamics. We first observe that the method does not always converge when the Qdiv 1...
متن کاملHigher-order mimetic methods for unstructured meshes
A higher-order mimetic method for the solution of partial differential equations on unstructured meshes is developed and demonstrated on the problem of conductive heat transfer. Mimetic discretization methods create discrete versions of the partial differential operators (such and the gradient and divergence) that are exact in some sense and therefore mimic the important mathematical properties...
